NEO is a decentralized open-source platform established in 2014. It was originally called Antshares but has changed its name in 2017. This ecosystem features an EcoBoost initiative designed to encourage people to build decentralized apps and smart contracts on this blockchain. This system was created by Da Hongfei and Erik Zhang and now it has a huge community of developers who have already introduced the NEO 3.0 version that features enhanced network security and support for a bigger number of transactions per second.
NEO has two native tokens and one of them is NEO. This token is used for investments and lets participants take part in voting regarding enhancements to the blockchain. The second token used on NEO to pay transaction fees is called GAS.
The total supply of NEO tokens is 100 million. All of them were generated upon the launch of the platform and the only way to get them is purchasing or exchanging for another cryptocurrency.
